The Las Vegas Market Summer edition held at the Las Vegas Design Center is nearing in just two short weeks, we thought we’d pass along some helpful tips to those of you attending! With more new resources, showrooms and products than ever before, this will be the biggest and best market yet! There are over 5 million square feet of showroom space with outstanding products and inspiration, that means A LOT of walking! This brings us to Tip #1 … wear your most comfy shoes! (or bring a change of flats) Seriously, I’ve been there and it’s NOT a good idea to follow the “fashion over comfort” rule in this case. There’s nothing worse than hobbling from showroom to showroom in utter pain, it’s just not a good look. Something that goes hand in hand with this tip is to wear layers. Outside may be 110 degrees, however it can get chilly inside. A small summer scarf or wrap usually handles the AC draft.
Tip #2 … do your homework. With so many products to discover, vendors to meet, and appetizers to try (yes, we’re guilty of being lured in by the food), it pays to schedule ahead. Take a look at the Preview Guide and figure out which brands and showrooms interest you, in fact I suggest making an appointment with the reps in advance! Even though Market spans five whole days, don’t assume that they’ll be available to answer all of your questions or be able to place orders when you walk in unannounced.
Tip #3… be friendly. Network, network, network! Introduce yourself to everyone and hand out business cards to all. I can’t tell you how valuable it is to have a brand’s rep in your corner when you’re looking for that perfect finishing piece or to be able to call the showroom manager and check stock in real time. Make sure you’re badge is scanned at each stop you make too, this way your info is added to the company’s database. I always look forward to newsletters and emails keeping me in the loop, knowledge is power right? Don’t stop there though, make friends with fellow buyers and designers. These shows are all about cultivating relationships, take advantage of the fact that everyone is in the same place at the same time!
Tip #4… be a butterfly. A social butterfly that is! This Market marks the ten year anniversary of the show, which means many special events are on the books. Take advantage of all the guest speaking engagements, there are so many great business and design professionals sharing their unique opinions, expertise, and advice. See the schedule of events
Tip #5 … share! If you’re anything like me, you’ll be snapping pictures of everything that captures your attention and adding it to your personal library of inspiration. From new product lines, color and texture combos, and creative installations; I’m sure you’ll have proof of all the fun you had. Don’t be shy, share your findings with your followers on social media. Tag every showroom, exhibitor, and resource possible. Use hashtags #LVMkt & #LVMkt2015 on your posts and to find behind the scenes inspiraton look up #ViewOnVegas. This is a great time to gain visibility while finding other creatives in the design field. And if you’re not already thinking this, what better way to get your clients (previous and current) excited about their project? Giving them sneak peeks of what will be available to them is great for your business!
And last but not least Tip #6 …
