Tell us your story, how and when did this passion for art develop?
“It’s definitely in my blood, I come from a family of artists/in the arts. I remember ever since I was a girl drawing and sketching, constantly fantasizing a dream world.”
Describe your artistic style to us. How do you incorporate this into your home decor?
“Funny enough I really started painting big pieces because I lived in a loft & wanted to decorate, but I couldn’t find art I liked – so I got creative! I started working with a lot of aerosols & framing black & white pieces from my sketch pad. The more people saw them & commented the more confidence I built in actually creating a profession out of my passion/interest.”
“My style is hard to describe! I have a graphic touch to my hand, so most of my work is fairly edgy even if its realistic or portraiture.”
What’s your favorite project you’ve been able to be part of?
“I love the surprise commission pieces the most. This year I helped create a living room piece for a client who was surprising her husband for his birthday. Afterwards she sent me the most lovely message about how beaming he was. Being able to be the conduit of giving is the most rewarding feeling I could ask for.”
Where do you feel most inspired or where do you get inspiration?
“I truly feel most inspired around friends. They help me feel comfortable & enable me to open up to a place of vulnerability that I think is necessary for creation.”
As interior designers, it’s important for us to capture our clients’ personality in the spaces we create for them. Is this an important aspect of what you do too? How do you go about learning what makes their hearts tick? How do you incorporate it into your art?
“Absolutely! All of my commissions involve going to the clients home, having them show me some of their favorite items in the home (be it a set of china, a lamp, a bedspread, or a pair of shoes!), so that I can really get to know their aesthetic. I like to discuss & show examples of work that I think would be fitting, and I always always send progress pics so we can stay in touch & on task!”
Tell us something about yourself other people usually don’t know.
“I usually paint in my undies or pajamas! I’m so messy & I’ve ruined enough decent clothing to know Im better off in skivies or in old pjs!”
What’s the hardest thing you find about being an artist/creative person?
“I think every creative person struggles at some point with time management & goal setting. It’s easy to get overwhelmed with the thoughts and ideas swarming around my brain (!), but what has allowed me to become successful in business is my ability to prioritize & follow through.”
