Our team recently shared some Christmas decorating tips with our friends at the Review Journal. Of course we want to share them with all of you too! Want to find your holiday decorating style or maybe just want to add a few tips to your already decorated home? We’ve got your back.
If you’re wondering what your holiday décor style is, think back to what you loved about the holidays when you were young. Were you attracted to the abundance of pretty lights? How about the yummy cookies and treats to eat and decorate? Maybe the cheery music and caroling? Or perhaps the anticipation of catching a glimpse of Santa’s visit? Focus on what feels good and use that as a starting point! Check out this holiday wish list Lisa’s dad found from when she was six years old. He framed it and gifted it to her! (How sweet!) She displays it every year as a reminder to celebrate innocence and gratitude. “Bed sheets” and “blanket cover that goes with the sheets”? She’s been dreaming up the design of your next bedroom for years now!
Here’s one of our secret decorating tips- never overlook wrapping gifts! Putting a little thought into the paper color and bow selection make the perfect statement under the tree. Choose a few solid colors or minimal patterned papers and combine with a coordinating bow. Adding an accessory to the bow, such as a small ornament, candy cane or pine tree needles will be the finishing touch. Don’t be afraid to experiment with some fun, non-traditional, colors too- like these vibrant disco ball ornaments!
“Sparkle, glam and luxury may often seem “over the top”, but it can all be done with class! If your furniture and interior is modern and minimalist, a little glam will definitely spice things up. You can do so through mixing throw pillows, soft blankets or Santa hats with some sequins or velvet textures. Of course, it’s always a treat to add a little tinsel too.
If you’re still a little confused about truly finding your holiday home style, think about what you like most about the holidays right now. What colors are you drawn to? Maybe it’s white and gray and you lean more towards a “winter” theme instead of the traditional red and green. We love to take a walk and bring back a little of mother nature with you. Items such as branches, swags, or pine cones are perfect for glittering, painting white tips, or filling vases. Oh, and don’t forget your family photos! Get rid of the summertime scenes and switch them out with all the skiing and snow photos. Voila! Consider your home decorated.
Is a rustic atmosphere more your style? Christmas is the season that warms your heart, despite the weather outside! What warms your heart and soul more than a rustic Christmas atmosphere (and hot chocolate)? Wrapping garlands and lights around your front door, fireplace and stair banisters will surely do the trick. Big red bows and family stockings above the mantle add that pop of color and classic feel too.
We hope we’ve inspired you with some Christmas cheer! You can read the full article HERE.
