Now that it’s officially December, your lights and Christmas tree must be up! Okay, okay, if you’re a little behind we won’t tell anyone. Maybe the traditional holiday décor isn’t “your thing,” no worries! Whether you’re a traditional decorator or prefer to keep it on the D.L., we’ve got some great (and chic!) holiday décor tips coming your way.
If DIY projects are more your speed, take a gander at The House That Lars Built every once in a while. We love their feed, especially this time of year because they feature all sorts of festive projects you can try! This Christmas bulb advent calendar is a fun way to countdown the days to Christmas and adds some color to an area in your home.
If you love the garland look of the DIY advent calendar but don’t feel up for the task, Crate & Barrel has a good selection of garlands & décor to hang on your wall or mantel. We love these silver bells!
From draping garlands to wrapping gifts, the possibilities are endless! (I secretly wanted to work as a gift wrapper at a fancy department store growing up, am I alone here?) If you love the task of wrapping gifts too, don’t be afraid to get creative. You can start by selecting chic paper. Solid colors, patterns, prints…it’s up to you! We quickly fell in love with these Sugar Paper LA wraps and accessories sold at Target. They even make the cutest boxes for quick and easy packaging! Patterned tape, small ornament bulbs, twine and ribbon add the perfect finishing touch to any box under the tree.
For those of us who enjoy sending holiday greeting cards to friends and family, options may leave you overwhelmed! We often pick up a couple of boxes from Homegoods/TJ Maxx (they have a great selection right now!) Some of our season’s favorites found here, here & here.
Growing up we always had a real Christmas tree. As wonderful as they smell, the needles are found in your carpet all year round. These types of artificial trees have plastic tips that look so much like the real deal, minus the hassle. How about decorating? Do you go with a color/theme or break out the ornaments you’ve had for years, creating more of an eclectic look? These geometric ornaments, handmade in Paris add a perfect modern touch to a Scandinavian inspired Christmas tree.
We don’t think there’s a right or wrong way to get your tree ready for Christmas. The only advice we would give is to start with lights, then ribbon (optional), next the XL ornaments, the smaller ornaments, and lastly top it off with a star! For a little tree inspiration, you have to check out this slideshow from Elle Decor, all beautifully decorated!
