I wait all year for June to arrive. I look forward to the upcoming summer, plan weekend road trips to visit friends in new places, and make changes to bring that “summer vibe” home with me. Now is the time to set the mood for your entire summer! There are a variety of ways we can freshen-up the ambiance and décor of our home to attain that summer-time vibe, not only on vacation, but also at home 24/7. No more vacation blues for us!
Many of us store our firewood outside and are scared to shift any of it around in chance that a family of spiders will come crawling out. What good are fireplaces in the summer time? Try artfully stacking your firewood in the fireplace! Not only does it eliminate some clutter outside, but also it adds an earthy element to your space. Summer is all about bringing outside elements inside, am I right?
Do certain areas of your home seem dark and dreary? Mirrors are miracle workers. Not only will they reflect light making the space brighter, but will make the area seem a lot larger too! Whether it is inside or outside, mirrors will help freshen up any space.
Take advantage of what is offered in your area. I love using fresh flowers in any room in the house. Finding a colorful glass pitcher, using ribbon on a mason jar or a simple modern vase will add that extra punch you don’t get from the standard floral arranging vases. If fresh markets aren’t available, floral shops will often offer discounts on their older stems, sometimes giving them away for free! Take them home with you to create an arrangement of your own.
Re-arrange your shelves. Why keep the same décor displayed year-round? Change out photos in frames with past summer vacations or something more “summery”. Display small souvenirs from past vacations, and use small succulents to spruce things up! I’m often pinning décor ideas to my Dream Home board on Pinterest.
The exterior of your home is what gives the first impression to your guests. A new welcome mat or potted plant is a great way to add some life and color to your front door. Let me link you to a few of my favorite door mats here, here and here.
Pretty simple ways to spruce things up a little, eh?
